Most gate failures are preventable. A few simple habits — monthly checks, lubrication, and sensor testing — can add years to your installation.
Why Maintenance Matters
An automatic gate is a mechanical and electrical system. Like any machine, it degrades without care. The good news: most failures are preventable with a simple monthly routine.
1. Lubricate the Hinges and Track Monthly
Use a silicone-based spray or white lithium grease on all moving parts — hinges, rollers, rack-and-pinion drives. Avoid WD-40 for long-term lubrication; it evaporates quickly.
2. Test the Safety Sensors Weekly
Stand in the gate's path and trigger the close command. The gate must stop and reverse immediately. If it doesn't, the sensor needs adjustment or replacement — do not delay this.
3. Check the Battery Backup Every 3 Months
Backup batteries degrade over time. Test them by disconnecting mains power and cycling the gate. Replace batteries every 2–3 years regardless of apparent condition.
4. Inspect the Wiring After Heavy Rain
Karachi's monsoon season can drive water into conduit joints and control boxes. After heavy rain, visually inspect visible cables and control boards for moisture or corrosion.
5. Book an Annual Professional Service
A trained technician will check motor torque, alignment, control board diagnostics, and safety force limits — things you can't easily check yourself.
When to Call a Professional
- Gate reverses for no reason
- Motor runs but gate doesn't move
- Remote range has reduced significantly
- Any grinding, squealing, or unusual noise
